Centrifuge for trumpet quintet (Jason Dovel)

Performance Duration: Approx. 7 minutes 15 sec.

Program Notes:

The title "centrifuge" is derived from that of a nuclear centrifuge; the piece contains many fast passages to convey a sense of "spinning," and at the same time playing on the tension between the scientific precision of the centrifuge vs. the potential horrific use of its perfected result. This piece was premiered in 2014 by the University of Kentucky "Shades of Blue" Trumpet Ensemble. With many challenging technical sections, as well as a beautiful lyrical section written for five flugelhorns, this piece was composed as a flashy competition showpiece.
